Nussbaum Law is a legal practice dedicated exclusively to Family Law in Toronto.

Barry Nussbaum

Barry Nussbaum

JD, MBA, Senior Lawyer


Barry is a respected member of both the Ontario and New York Bars. He completed the combined JD/MBA program at Osgoode Hall and the Schulich School of Business.

Prior to practicing law, Barry was an associate at an international consulting firm, where his provided international tax consulting services to Canadian multinational companies.

Barry represents clients in all areas of family law, including divorce, support, property division, and domestic contracts (prenuptial, cohabitation, separation, and parenting agreements). Barry also assists clients involved in child protection matters with the Children’s Aid Societies.

With his broad and focused experience in family law, Barry provides effective and strategic solutions for his clients.

Barry regularly appears in the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice, including representing clients on appeal matters.

Some of Barry’s notable successes include the following:

  • Successfully defended Ontario as the appropriate jurisdiction, when the mother unilaterally attempted to change the jurisdiction to Alberta (Pearson v. Whittingham, 2012 ONCJ 187).
  • Defeated the Children’s Aid Society on a motion to temporarily place the child in the care of the mother, rather than in the care of the Children’s Aid Society (Children’s Aid Society of Toronto v. C.D., 2015 ONCJ 36).
  • Obtained an Order for sole custody for the Father after a 3-day trial (Alqudsi v. Dahnus, 2016 ONCJ 707).

In his personal time, Barry enjoys spending time with his family, especially his five wonderful children.

 

Jaclyn Mackenzie

Jaclyn Mackenzie

BA (Gold Medal), JD, Associate Lawyer


Jaclyn obtained her Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) from Western University. At convocation, Jaclyn was awarded the University Gold Medal for graduating with the highest academic standing in her degree program.

Jaclyn received her Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University, where she worked as a Research Assistant for Professor Nick Bala and as the Family Law Project Coordinator for Pro Bono Students Canada. In her graduating year, Jaclyn was awarded the Nicholas Bala Award for Excellence in Children’s and Family Law and the Community Commitment Award.

Jaclyn’s practice encompasses all areas of family law including custody, access, child and spousal support, property division, and child protection. Jaclyn appears regularly before both the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice.

In addition to working as a family and child protection lawyer, Jaclyn is currently Chair of the New Professionals Committee and a Member of the Sponsorship Committee for the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (Ontario) and the Awards Co-Chair for the Walsh Family Law Moot.

 

Aron David

Aron David

BA, JD, Associate Lawyer


Aron was called to the Ontario Bar in 2015 after completing his articles with Nussbaum Law Professional Corporation. Prior to articling, Aron attended York University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, with Honours. Thereafter, Aron received his Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School. While attending at Osgoode, Aron volunteered at the school’s legal aid clinic, where he assisted individuals with their legal issues.

Aron realized his passion for family law when he began his career with Nussbaum Law as a summer student in 2013. Since this time, Aron has dealt with all areas of family law, including custody, access, child support, spousal support, division of family property and child protection-Children’s Aid matters.

Aron’s patience with clients stands out, and at the same time offers practical resolutions and provides the clients reasonable expectations.

Aron has experience in the area of Creditor’s Rights, and has directed the collection and enforcement of secured and unsecured debt.

Aron has represented clients at the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice.

In his spare time, Aron enjoys spending time with his friends and family and travelling.

 

Alyssa Bach

Alyssa Bach

BA, JD, Associate Lawyer


Alyssa Bach graduated from the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law in June 2016. Prior to law school, Alyssa obtained her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University.

Alyssa developed her interest in law at a young age and was able to explore this interest throughout her undergraduate degree while she interned at a criminal defence law firm in Ottawa and participated in the Osgoode Hall Undergraduate Moot.

Alyssa realized her passion for family law while working in a family law firm in Ottawa and through participation in the BLG Negotiation in Family Law Competition.

Alyssa commenced her articles at Nussbaum Law Professional Corporation in August 2016 and is actively involved in all in all areas of the practice.

During her leisure time, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets, watching movies, reading novels, and relaxing at the cottage.

 

Shannon

Shannon Koch

Law Clerk


Shannon attended Conestoga College and graduated with distinction from the Office Administration – Legal program in April 2012.

After spending over three years at a large full-service law firm in Stratford, Ontario, Shannon joined Nussbaum Law as a Law Clerk.

In her spare time, Shannon enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading and camping.

 

Mason

Mason Morningstar

Student-at-Law


Mason Morningstar graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in June 2017. Prior to law school,
Mason studied Philosophy at Laurentian University.

Mason realized his passion for family law early in his law school career, when he began
volunteering with the Family Law Project. There, he assisted low-income clients to draft court
materials and navigate the litigation process. Mason also competed in the Walsh Family Law
Moot, where he and his teammate won the best factum award.

Mason comes to Nussbaum Law with an excitement for litigation and serving low-income
clients.

In his spare time, Mason is an avid guitar player and billiards enthusiast, and enjoys keeping
current with philosophical literature.
