Nussbaum Law is a legal practice dedicated exclusively to Family Law in Toronto.

Barry Nussbaum

Barry Nussbaum

JD, MBA, Senior Lawyer


Barry is a respected member of both the Ontario and New York Bars, and obtained his MBA from the Schulich School of Business. With his his broad and focused experience in family law, Barry provides effective and strategic solutions for his clients. Barry represents clients in both matrimonial disputes and cases involved the Children’s Aid Society (“CAS”). In addition to his legal experience, Mr. Nussbaum was an associate at an international consulting firm, where his focus was to provide international tax consulting services to Canadian multinational companies.

Barry regularly appears in the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice, including representing clients on appeal matters.

His successes include:

  • Successfully defended Ontario as the appropriate jurisdiction, when the mother unilaterally attempted to change the jurisdiction to Alberta Pearson v. Whittingham, 2012 ONCJ 187
  • Defeated the Children’s Aid Society on a motion to temporary place the child in the care of the mother, rather than in the care of the Children’s Aid Society Children's Aid Society of Toronto v. C.D., 2015 ONCJ 36

Barry is married and has four wonderful children.



Jaclyn Mackenzie

Prior to her call to the Ontario bar, Jaclyn completed her articles at the largest family law firm in York Region, gaining valuable experience and expertise. Prior to articling, Jaclyn obtained her Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) from Western University where she was named to the Dean’s Honour List and conferred the Western University Gold Medal for graduating with the highest academic standing in her degree program. Thereafter, Jaclyn received her Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University. Jaclyn has worked in Kingston’s Family Court as the Family Law Project Coordinator for Pro Bono Students Canada where she assisted unrepresented family litigants draft court documents. She also directed the volunteer program. Jaclyn has also worked as a Research Assistant for Prof. Nicholas Bala, completed a Judicial Clerkship, and competed in the inaugural Walsh Family Law Moot. At convocation, Jaclyn was awarded both the Nicholas Bala Award for Excellence in Children’s and Family Law and the Community Commitment Award.

Jaclyn’s practice encompasses all areas of family law including custody, access, support, property, and child protection. Jaclyn appears regularly before both the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice.

In addition to working as a family and child protection lawyer, Jaclyn is currently Chair of the New Professionals Committee for the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (Ontario). She is also a member of the Family Lawyers Association.

In her spare time, Jaclyn enjoys exercising, yoga, travelling, and spending time with friends and family.



Aron David

Aron David

Aron was called to the Ontario Bar in 2015 after completing his articles with Nussbaum Law Professional Corporation. Prior to articling, Aron attended York University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, with Honours. Thereafter, Aron received his Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School. While attending at Osgoode, Aron volunteered at the school’s legal aid clinic, where he assisted individuals with their legal issues.

Aron realized his passion for family law when he began his career with Nussbaum Law as a summer student in 2013. Since this time, Aron has dealt with all areas of family law, including custody, access, child support, spousal support, division of family property and child protection-Children’s Aid matters.

Aron’s patience with clients stands out, and at the same time offers practical resolutions and provides the clients reasonable expectations.

Aron has experience in the area of Creditor’s Rights, and has directed the collection and enforcement of secured and unsecured debt.

Aron has represented clients at the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice.

In his spare time, Aron enjoys spending time with his friends and family and travelling.



Alyssa Bach

Alyssa Bach graduated from the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law in June 2016. Prior to law school, Alyssa obtained her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University.

Alyssa developed her interest in law at a young age and was able to explore this interest throughout her undergraduate degree while she interned at a criminal defence law firm in Ottawa and participated in the Osgoode Hall Undergraduate Moot.

Alyssa realized her passion for family law while working in a family law firm in Ottawa and through participation in the BLG Negotiation in Family Law Competition.

Alyssa commenced her articles at Nussbaum Law Professional Corporation in August 2016 and is actively involved in all in all areas of the practice.

During her leisure time, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets, watching movies, reading novels, and relaxing at the cottage.



Shannon

Shannon Koch

Law Clerk


Shannon attended Conestoga College and graduated with distinction from the Office Administration – Legal program in April 2012.

After spending over three years at a large full-service law firm in Stratford, Ontario, Shannon joined Nussbaum Law as a Law Clerk.

In her spare time, Shannon enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading and camping.
